Stamp Collection — a Tanka

Standard

Huge album open
He sat beside my father
Two whitened heads bowed
Poring over memories
Captured in the many stampsIMG_9946

A Tanka, like the Haiku, is based on syllable count per line. The Haiku follows a 5-7-5 scheme, but the Tanka has two extra 7 syllable lines — 5-7-5-7-7.

My father’s church has been sending men once a week to visit him. The first was an old friend, and they just sat and talked. The second came bearing sweets. This man came with a stamp album, and it was so good to watch my father being engaged with stamps and memories.
