Faded Memories

Standard

My memories are so fadedcarpet
Fuzzy –
Indistinct.
Reminds me of the carpet
My husband used to ink
For a priest who dealt in antiques
Who knew the price was higher
If he brightened up the colors.
(Did that make him a liar?)
So he hired boys,
Bought markers,
And put them in one room;
With careful work in coloring
The shades took on new bloom —

What kind of markers can I buy
To help my memory?
It is so gol-darn muddled
And I need a remedy.
I doubt it will be easy
Like coloring a rug —
Perhaps I will ignore it
Perhaps I will just shrug
And proceed with the present –
There’s plenty there to do.
I’ll forget about the past,
Move on, learn something new.
